When an adjustment program opens correctly but shows no printer, the useful question is not “which reset should I try?” but “where does detection fail?” Work from the operating system toward the utility so each layer is confirmed before moving on.
Check power, state and visible errors
Make sure the printer is fully powered on and not trapped in a state that prevents normal communication, such as a severe paper-path error or an unfinished firmware process. A maintenance warning can still allow service communication on some models, but a hardware fault may not.
Wait until the printer finishes startup noises before launching the service utility. If the device repeatedly reboots, disconnects or shows a hardware code, address that condition first.
Confirm the operating system device
Windows should list the printer or USB device consistently. If it appears as an unknown device, reinstall the appropriate driver or reconnect the USB cable. If several copies of the printer are present, identify the active queue.
Printing a normal test page is a useful confirmation when the printer is still able to print. If regular printing fails, do not assume the service utility is the only problem.
Match utility architecture and model support
Older service utilities may behave differently on newer Windows versions. Compatibility mode can help some legacy applications, but it cannot make an unsupported printer model compatible.
Check the tool build, model list and any region notes. If the package does not explicitly include the model, use a different build or request the exact archive.
Test methodically, not randomly
Change one variable at a time: USB port, cable, Windows queue, then utility port selection. Re-test after each change. This avoids a situation where detection begins working but you do not know what fixed it.
